The amount of light from a lamp is expressed in lumens. The higher the number of lumens, the more light. One lumen is equal to the light output of one candle. A handy rule of thumb is that in general you need about 20 lumens of light per square meter. An office, bathroom or study, on the other hand, needs more light.
